Geometry

We have just completed our Geometry lesson. It was a nice break from our multiplication and division. We enjoyed using pattern blocks as we discovered the various attributes of each shape. We are now moving into our fractions unit. Please continue to help your child with their multiplication/division facts. It's very important that they know their facts because this will help them be more successful with fractions.

Battle of the Book

Some of my students chose to participate in the extra-curricular activity, Battle of the Books.  This is a fun event, but also requires some extra effort on the students part.  They were given a list of books at the beginning of the year, and put in groups of 3 or 4. Within their groups they divided the books up and spent the year reading these books. They would meet with their groups every so often, outside of school, to study, read, come up with a cheer, and quiz each other.

Last week was the actual "Battle of the Books." The kids spent the day with the other 3rd and 4th graders who also chose to participate. They had different rounds of competitions as well as a PE activity and lunch. They were treated to a pizza party, which the kids loved.

I was so proud of our 3rd graders! They worked so hard throughout the year. The three top teams, that competed in the final round, were made up of all 3rd graders! Good job! Also, thanks to all the parents that helped throughout the year, as well as during the actual event. It couldn't have been done without you!

Valentine's Day

We had a great time on Valentine's Day. We did some educational activities in the morning, that went along with the Valentine's Day theme. Then in the afternoon we had our party. Mrs. Edwards did a great job organizing and planning it all. We played some fun games, passed out our Valentines and enjoyed a wide selection of fruits and veggies.

100th Day

The other day we celebrated our 100th day of 3rd grade! I can't believe we have already been in school 100 days. We did some writing activities where the students brainstormed what they would do if they had $100.00.  There were 100 piece puzzles for the students to put together when they finished their tasks early. We also made a class book where the students answered, "In 100 years I will be.." and then illustrated their page (It will be out for parents to look at during conferences). The students played some math games that were connected with the number 100. The students counted to see how many jumping jacks they could do in 100 seconds (they were very tired when the timer went off) and also how high they could count (write) in 100 seconds. I love seeing my students excitement for learning and I am looking forward to 80 more great days of 3rd grade!
